As if it doesn't cost enough to park in Philadelphia already, the PPA recently hiked up the meter rates in Center City and University City.

The most annoying thing about this is that the meters no longer accept nickels or dimes! So forget your loose change enabling you to park these days because your going to have to go straight to the bank for a roll of quarters. And when you do, you'll find that instead of getting the usual 14 minutes for your quarter, you'll only get 7. Boo. So much for trying to save during the recession.

Recently Fox 29 News posted this article about increases in fines in Center City:

"Now, if you get a ticket in Center City (which, of course, encompasses the city's wealthiest neighborhoods), you stand to pay a much bigger fine than before, for things like an expired meter or no standing. If you get the same ticket in a different neighborhood, the fine stays the same.

Here are some sample fines:

Expired Meter: \$26 citywide, \$36 Center City

Loading Zone: \$36 citywide, \$51 Center City

No Stopping: \$51 citywide, \$76 Center City

The city claims this is all about reducing congestion, and making people more likely to garage their cars, instead of parking on the street or circling for a parking space."

We'd love to hear your stories about getting your car towed, getting the boot, parking tickets, or trying to reason with the parking authority. You got the fine, so now lets complain about it!
